Pre-Purchase Inspection in Tallmadge

Found a used car you like? Before you hand over the money, bring it to Ralph's. We put it on the lift, look at the parts the seller cannot polish, and tell you what you are really buying.

Ralph Mosser has been fixing cars for more than 40 years. He is an ASE Master Technician and a master machinist, so he knows what a tired engine sounds like and what a fresh coat of undercoating is hiding.

What we look at

Underneath first. Ohio salt eats cars from the bottom up, so we check the frame, the subframe mounts, the brake and fuel lines, the exhaust and the suspension for rust and old repairs.

Then the rest of the car. We scan for stored and pending codes, check the fluids and look for leaks, measure the brakes and tires, and look over the cooling system and the belts. A road test tells us how the engine, the transmission and the steering really behave.

How to set it up

Call the shop and pick a time. Then ask the seller to drive the car over, or bring it in on your test drive. A seller who will not let a mechanic look at the car has told you something already.

We are open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 3 PM, at 203 Potomac Ave, Units C, D and E.

What you get

A straight answer before you pay. What is fine, what needs work soon, and what it would cost to fix here. Sometimes that means buy it. Sometimes it is the reason to ask for less. Sometimes it is the reason to walk away.
